Legislation/Regulation

Consumer Policy Unit keeps Ireland’s consumer protection legislation under review and drafts legislation on foot of domestic and EU led initiatives. This involves contact by letter, telephone or meetings with interest groups, etc. The Section welcomes input from interested parties at our dedicated e-mail address conspol@entemp.ie.

Representative Role

National level

The Section represents the Minister/Department on:

EU/International level

The Section represents Ireland, when appropriate at:

  • The European Council on Consumer Protection and Information Working Party.
  • The European Commission's European Consumer Centres Network.
  • The Advisory Committee for Community actions in support of consumer policy.

The Section's Assistant Secretary and Principal Officer represent Ireland at European Commission meetings of Senior Consumer Policy Officials (the Consumer Policy Network).

At international level, the Section represents Ireland at the International Convention on the Control and Marking of Precious Metals.

Ireland is a member of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), an international organisation of 30 member countries which share a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. The OECD plays a prominent role in fostering good governance in the public service and helps governments to ensure the responsiveness of key economic areas with sectoral monitoring.
