The National Consumer Agency was established under the Consumer Protection Act 2007 with effect from the 1st May 2007. The new Agency’s specific mandate includes advocacy, research, information, enforcement, education and awareness. The Agency enforces a wide range of consumer protection laws, including laws on deceptive trading practices (including unfair, misleading and aggressive), consumer credit, package travel, unfair contract terms, timeshare, consumer safety (mandatory standards), food labelling, textile labelling, unit pricing and price displays. The Small Claims Procedure is a means for resolving disputes about goods and services where the amount involved is less than ¤2,000. It is a cheap and speedy means of resolving disputes about goods and services. The Registrar of the District Court will try to solve the dispute without recourse to a court hearing. If this does not succeed, the case goes to the District Court for a hearing. Information on how to use the service is available from the Registrar. A small processing fee is payable. Contact your local district court for an application. Alternatively, you can download an online form. |

A non-profit organisation financed by the industry which is the supervisory body for the Premium Rate telecommunications industry in Ireland. Regtel operates through a code of practice which must be observed by all companies or individuals offering Premium Rate Services in Ireland. It investigates complaints made by any person or organisation about the content or promotion of premium rate services and will take action designed to achieve compliance with the code of practice where breaches of the Code are found. One example where consumers might be in contact with Regtel would be where they were unhappy with the promotion or content of free scratch cards requiring use of premium rate telecommunications services. |
