Liaison with the Consumers' Association of Ireland

The Consumers' Association of Ireland Ltd. (CAI) was set up in 1966 to protect and educate consumers. It is the aim of CAI to represent consumers, making sure that their needs as consumers of goods and services are given higher priority. The CAI is an independent, non-profit and non-government organisation. Through its monthly publication Consumer Choice,it reports on services and any other area of consumer interest. The CAI also represents the consumer on appropriate Government and other bodies or international organisations including those within the framework of the European Union e.g. BEUC (the European Consumers' Organisation), ANEC (the European organisation defending consumer interests in the process of standardisation and certification) and Consumers International (the global consumers' organisation).

The Consumer Policy Section provides a grant to the CAI in each year to enhance the capacity of the CAI to represent consumer interests and liaises with the CAI regarding their expenditure plans for the grant and the outcomes with regard to same.
